India Film Season

This month London’s Regent Street Cinema hosts its very own India Season; a month long celebration of Indian film, starting on 9th November 2015.

Mondays in November will be dedicated to showcasing the phenomenal and far reaching gems produced by the Indian film industry. Screening diverse productions from classic blockbusters to meaningful and thought provoking films, the Regent Street Cinema will be showcasing the unique talents within Indian arts to coincide with the V&A Museum’s own India Festival.

Rosemary Crill, co-curator of the V&A’s Fabric Of India Exhibition, will be joined in conversation with Indian fashion designer, Jyoti Chandhok on Monday 9th November following the screening of Throw Of Dice. On Monday 16th November, Pat Murphy and Annie Dibble, Director and Associate Producer/Textile Researcher for Tana Bana will host a Q&A session before the screening.

Regent Street Cinema will be working with Tongues on Fire, who have selected the very best films from the Indian film catalogue, programmed to complement the V&A’s India Festival for a truly unique cinematic experience.

Dr. Pushpinder Chowdhry, Festival Director, Tongues on Fire: “As a passionate and dedicated film buff, I am very excited for this programme as I believe it is the films that will be making these exhibitions truly come alive. These six carefully selected films will perfectly complement the V&A’s exhibition providing context and truly helping us experience the art, the fabrics, the costumes and the jewels.”

The programme starts on 9th November with  Throw Of Dice and Umrao Jaan. Anjuma and Tana Bana feature on 16th November  and Kanchivaram and Devdas on 23rd.
