Little Monsters

In DVD/Blu-ray by Paula Hammond - Features Editor

Little Monsters follows Dav (Alexander England), Miss Caroline (Lupita Nyong’o) and Teddy McGiggle (Josh Gad) as they fight to save a class of pre-schoolers from a zombie apocalypse.

This deliciously gruesome zom-rom-com is already being compared to Zombieland and What We Do In The Shadows—which is no small feat from a film that made its name on the indie film festival circuit.

With SFX from the Oscar-winning team behind Mad Max: Fury Road, Little Monsters doesn’t hold back on the gore. But, behind all the hack and slash, the storyline is both fun and charming, with enough genuine chemistry between Miss Caroline and Dav to make you care about what happens next.

Once again, Lupita Nyong’o steals the film, proving herself as adept at comedy as she is at serious drama. While Gad—more famous for his performances in Disney franchises—is pitch perfect as the creepy Teddy McGiggle.

Little Monsters doesn’t offer up anything particularly new or surprising yet what it does it does well— and with its tongue jammed firmly in its cheek.
