London New Year’s Parade Goes Blockbuster

Jurassic Park dinosaurs, Ghostbusters, The Italian Job, X-Factor finalist Ché Chesterman – and some extraordinary archive footage of London down the decades, are all featuring in the perfect New Year’s party – and everyone’s got an invite.

It’s free, fun and just the ticket for families and others across the Capital – London’s New Year’s Day Parade.

And avid cinema and TV fans will be delighted to learn that the turn of year tradition, on January 1st is themed ‘Lights, Camera, Action’.

The 31st parade, has partnered with the nation’s most prestigious movie institution – the British Film Institute (BFI) – that will be supplying archive footage of London down the decades. More than 8,000 performers from numerous nations will participate in the 31st annual parade – which will be televised live around the World.

The City of Westminster and the London boroughs of: Barking & Dagenham, Barnet, Bromley, Brent, Croydon, Enfield, Hammersmith & Fulham, Haringey, Harrow, Havering, Hillingdon, Lambeth, Lewisham, Redbridge, Sutton, have all submitted entries.

The parade, which starts at 12 Noon, runs from Green Park tube station, along Piccadilly to Piccadilly Circus, Regent Street St James’s to Pall Mall, Trafalgar Sq, and Whitehall and ends at the junction of Parliament St and Parliament Sq.

The World’s biggest balloons will be flying high above the streets of the West End – and music and confetti will fill the air.

Executive Director Bob Bone, said: “The entire World has been beguiled by film and television down the decades – and we wanted to bring a little magic of the movies to London’s New Year.”

The theme will be reflected by entries from London boroughs, performance groups, marching bands, historic vehicles, cheerleaders, and a myriad of other spectacular sights.

London’s New Year’s Day Parade has raised more than a million pounds for charities across the Capital. LNYDP 2017 will be broadcast live in the UK on London Live and Showcase TV and on hundreds of stations in the USA, Europe and beyond. The parade will be streamed online at www.lnydp.com
