Paul Feig Will Direct New Ghostbusters

It’s been in development hell for the better part of two decades but finally it looks like there is a Slimer at the end of the tunnel for Ghostbusters.  Because last night Bridesmaid director Paul Feig tweeted that he would indeed be directing a new Ghostbusters movie.   He also stated that the new Ghostbusters would be made up of “hilarious women” which means we can all stop worrying about whether or not Bill Murray would return as it seems he’s no longer needed.

Feig of course has form with female led comedies thanks to Bridesmaids and The Heat.  With that in mind he’s hired his Heat co-writer Katie Dippold to help him pen the script.  Feig is currently putting the finishing touches to Spy which stars Heat and Bridesmaids’ Melissa McCarthy and is supposed to be heading over to make Wish List with Reece Witherspoon next.  Given the script for Ghostbusters is now back to the drawing board it’s likely that he’ll stick to his schedule and turn his attention to busting ghosts after that.

So how do you feel about a Ghostbusters with no Venkman, Stantz, Spengler (RIP) or Zeddmore?  Who should play the new Ghostbusters?  Could Feig make it an unofficial spin-off to Bridesmaids and hire Kristen Wiig, McCarthy, Rose Bryne and Maya Rudolph as his Ghosbusters?  Let us know who you think would make the best Ghostbusting team.  Source – Paul Feig on Twitter.

Alex Moss’ obsession with film began the moment he witnessed the Alien burst forth from John Hurt’s stomach. It was perhaps ill-advised to witness this aged 6 but much like the beast within Hurt, he became infected by a parasite called ‘Movies’. Rarely away from his computer or a big screen, as he muses on Cinematic Deities, Alex is “more machine now than man. His mind is twisted and evil”. Email: alex.moss@filmjuice.com
