While Star Trek has certainly never made any moves to slow down, recent years have seen a particularly large yield of new content across various new series – and it peaked with the charmingly nostalgic Strange New Worlds. This wondrous prequel to the original series faithfully captures the warmth of Trek’s bygone era while paving a fresh future for the franchise. It’s an utter delight throughout, with Hell on Wheels’ Anson Mount stealing the show as Captain Pike – if you don’t fall madly in love with him, there’s something wrong with you. True fans’ hearts belong to Cullen Bohannon, though…
This is without a doubt the best new Trek in years – and that’s saying something, as Picard continues to earn rave reviews while animated comedy series Lower Decks has proved itself a firm fan favourite. Strange New Worlds is a love letter to sci-fi adventure of old, and fits like a cosy, warm jumper. It’s something special, that’s for sure.
