Summer Cinema Events

With the weather finally on our side film fans can begin to look forward to an extensive programme of outdoor events. Whether you’re hard on cash, an indecisive cult fanatic or love a group sing-along, FilmJuice brings you the best in this season’s cinema.

Vauxhall Village Presents Summer Screen 2014
This completely free series of screenings is already underway and runs into late July. Head to Vauxhall’s elusive Pleasure Gardens, but minutes from the station to enjoy a comedy led line up including Alan Partridge: Alpha Papa, This Is Spinal Tap and The Big Lebowski. Throws and deckchairs are available for hire at a reasonable price, and you need to arrive by 7pm to secure a place. You can find the full programme here:

Pop Up Screens
A summer cinema regular and a FilmJuice favourite, Pop Up Screens returns for a bumper programme of events across the whole capital. From Moredon to Hammersmith, to Greenwich, residents can enjoy reasonably priced tickets for a programme chosen with just about everyone in mind. Teen hotheads can take a trip through the 90s and 00s with The Faculty, Legally Blonde and 10 Things I Hate About You, the best of British is present with Shaun of the Dead and The Full Monty and get ready to dance those cares away with The Rocky Horror Show, Grease and Mama Mia. Peckish participants can look forward to Pop Up Burgers this year along with a fully stocked bar. Find your local screening here

Cult Screens
For those outside the capital, Cult Screens have you covered. Whether you feel the need for speed in Swindon with a screening of Top Gun (Main Picture), want to turn it up to 11 with This Is Spinal Tap in Reading or are being seduced by Mrs Robinson with The Graduate in Reading there are a host of films playing until mid-July. The Floating Cinema Extra-International
All aboard the Floating Cinema for a film led tour around London’s waterways this season. The boat based screen, which launches the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park this weekend will host over 40 events including a Talks and Tours programme aiming to bring visitors closer to the passing water communities, an educational programme considering environmental issues as well as variety of film and documentary screenings, more often than not accompanied by Q&As and workshops. Backyard Cinema
Settle down on the cobbled streets of Camden Lock where you’ll Backyard Cinema’s massive outdoor screen set up for the summer. The programme, which runs from July to September includes  30th Anniversary screenings of Ghostbusters and This Is Spinal Tap, goofy fun in the shape of Superbad and The Goonies and Sing and Dance-a-Long showings of Grease and The Blues Brothers for those who struggle to keep still. Beers, burgers and live DJs will be present to keep the night going. See the full line up here

Route 66 Drive in Cinema
Northern cinema goers can enjoy Hollywood from the comfort of their car with Route 66, who bring the latest blockbusters to Manchester and Liverpool. Entry is £20 a car, despite how many people are in it, and you can have hot food and drinks brought straight to your vehicle.
