Returning for another
year to the capital, Sundance celebrates its second edition next month with a
bigger programme offering the best in independent film and music.
Taking
over the O2 arena in London, Robert
Redford’s
festival runs from the 25th to the 28th of
April with live performances, panels and screenings galore.

The cinema programme of this year’s festival blends strong
contenders from both domestic and overseas markets. This year’s UK Spotlight
film is Michael Winterbottom’s The Look of Love (Main Picture). Reunited with his 24 Hour Party People star Steve Coogan, the film delves in the
scandalous life of Paul Raymond, known for his title as the “King of Soho.”
Already receiving strong praise from critics and with a promising performances
and a fitting soundtrack, the film will be showing on the festival’s opening
night.

From the US programme we get Lynn Shelton’s Touchy Feely. The director of Your Sister’s Sister and Humpday
returns with a powerful cast including Rosemarie
DeWitt
and Ellen Page for an
account of a troubled family in turmoil, and will be shown from the 26th
to 28th of April.

Other highlights include Shane Carruth’s Upstream Colour, In A World, Lake Bells
faux documentary of the world of voice over artists, and Blackfish, which follows the aftermath of the real events where a
killer whale causes the death of three individuals at a sealife park.

Electro princess Peaches
will be leading a strong music programme this year with a live performance in
accompaniment to her first feature film Peaches
Does Herself
, an electro rock opera that follows the performer’s journey to
find herself.

The Eagles will
be in attendance on the 25th of April for a Q&A for History of The Eagles Part One, a
documentary directed by Alison Ellwood
that features recording sessions and backstage footage of the band. The festival also welcomes Greg Allman and Paul John White of the Civil
Wars
for an evening of music and the premiere of Greg “Freddy” Camalier’s acclaimed music documentary, Muscle
Shoals
.
