The Art And Soul Of Dune

Frank Herbert’s 1965 novel, Dune, was the starting point. A novel that won award after award—and, despite being discussed as the archetypal ‘un-filmable’ novel—went on to inspire an hugely successful TV and film franchise.

Herbert himself wrote five sequels, before passing the mantle onto his son Brain and co-author Keven J Anderson. The tales have since inspired comics, graphic novels, video games, David Lynch’s 1984 film, a miniseries and, now Denis Villeneuve’s highly anticipated two-part visual spectacular.

To celebrate the release of the new film, Titan Books’  The Art And Soul Of Dune by Tanya Lapointe, takes fans on a creative through the journey through Villeneuve’s breathtaking adaptation.

Running to 240 pages, The Art And Soul Of Dune is a visual delight, with a lush slip-sleeve and full-colour art exploring the film, from its stunning set and creature designs, to its intricate and landmark digital effects. A  wealth of concept art and other key visuals showcase the design process behind Villeneuve’s bold vision.

The author, Tanya Lapointe, was Dune’s executive producer, meaning that she has been able to access an incredible range of interviewees— including Villeneuve (Blade Runner 2049), alongside key cast and crew, such as Timothée Chalamet, Rebecca Ferguson, and Oscar Isaac. Many of these are surprisingly candid, offering up an account of an hugely ambitious project, and all the ups, downs, and problems associated with filming in harsh and difficult environments. The result is a coffee-table book that offers extensive—and exclusive—insight.

Dune is likely to be the most discussed release of the year and  The Art And Soul Of Dune is the film’s only official companion, making it a must-have for fans this festive season.

The Art And Soul Of Dune by Tanya Lapointe, published by Titan Books (ISBN: 9781789096095) is available now in hardback from all good booksellers.
