The Death of “Superman Lives”: What Happened?

In the 90s, after The Death and Return of Superman became one of the biggest selling comics ever, Warner Bros. decided to strike while the iron was hot with a new movie.  At one point Kevin Smith was writing the screenplay, and later it was to have starred Nicholas Cage being directed by Tim Burton.  However the project never got past pre-production.  After a successful Kickstarter campaign, Jon Schnepp (Metalocalypse, The Venture Bros.) is making a feature length “unmaking of” documentary.  The stated aim is to have interviews with almost everyone involved and include recreations of scenes from the script and concept art.  It’s the story of how close we came to getting one of the most interesting visions of the Man of Steel ever on the big screen.  Coming Summer 2014.
