There are few films with quite as enduring a cult legacy as Ron Underwood’s Tremors, the franchise-spawning love letter to 1950s creature features and B-movies. An affectionate throwback to old school horror with heaps of comedy on top for good measure, Tremors is a film that lives up to its reputation even thirty years on. It is no surprise, then, that the folks at Arrow Video have given it a 4K-restored and fully loaded collectors’ edition.
Handymen Val (Kevin Bacon) and Earl (Fred Ward) are trying to escape their dead-end existence in the nowhere desert town of Perfection, but they soon they find more than they bargained for when they unearth giant, wormlike monsters hungry for human flesh. With the help of a seismologist (Finn Carter) and an eccentric survivalist couple (Michael Gross and Reba McEntire), they must fight for survival against the underground creatures.
What can one say about Tremors? Despite its age, Tremors retains its oodles of charm and charisma that have made it a household name in horror circles. With perfectly timed wit through its vibrant dialogue, stellar performances across the board and dazzling practical effects that hold up remarkably well today, it is simply one of those films that just absolutely delights throughout, even in 2020. Here is a film that’s #1 priority is a damn good time, and it succeeds. The five sequels and short-lived TV series failed to fully capture the affectionate charm of this timeless classic. You know it, you love it. I don’t need to tell you how good it is, do I? Thought not.
This stunning new release from Arrow Video is a thing of beauty, breathing new life into the film which until now has been sadly quite poorly served on home video. This gorgeous Special Edition also contains some awesome swag in the form of a book, posters, art cards and more, continuing Arrow Video’s reputation as one of the finest and most passionate distributors around for cult films.
Tremors is an endlessly enjoyable all-out romp, and this stunning new release from Arrow Video presents the film in the finest quality imaginable. Fans will be thrilled.
