From Academy Award® winner Taiki Waititi (Thor: Ragnarok, Jojo Rabbit, What We Do In The Shadows) comes Next Goal Wins, a heartwarming and hilarious tale inspired by the true-life story of soccer underdogs American Samoa and their stumbling attempts to qualify for the 2014 FIFA World Cup.

Described as “big-hearted and feel-good” (Wendy Ide, Screen Daily) and “a perfect underdog movie” (Martin Tsai, The Wrap), the film stars acclaimed actor Michael Fassbender as Thomas Rongen, the maverick coach with the near-impossible task of trying to turn one of the world’s worst soccer team into winners. The international ensemble cast also includes Oscar Kightley, Kaimana, Elisabeth Moss, David Fane, Rachel House, Will Arnett and Rhys Darby.

Next Goal Wins is released on Blu-ray™ and DVD on 8th April from distributor Elevation Sales. 

Based on a true story, this heartfelt underdog comedy follows the American Samoa soccer team, infamous for their brutal 31-0 FIFA loss in 2001. With the World Cup qualifiers fast approaching, the team hires down-on-his- luck, maverick coach Thomas Rongen (Michael Fassbender), hoping he will turn the world’s worst soccer team into winners.

Next Goal Wins is directed by BAFTA, Grammy and Academy Award® winner Taika Waititi (Thor: Ragnarok, Jojo Rabbit, What We Do In The Shadows). The film is co-written by Waititi and Iain Morris (TV Series ‘The Inbetweeners’, The Inbetweeners 1 & 2, The Festival) based on a 2014 documentary of the same name directed by Mike Brett and Steve Jamison. The film is produced by Garrett Basch (The Night Of, What We Do In The Shadows),Jonathan Cavendish (Bridget Jones’ Diary), the original documentary directors Mike Brett (On the Morning You Wake (to the End of the World), Notes on Blindness) and Steve Jamison (On the Morning You Wake (to the End of the World), Notes on Blindness), and Taika Waititi. The film stars three-time Golden Globe® winner Michael Fassbender (X-Men, 12 Years A Slave),  alongside Oscar Kightley (Moana, Hunt For The Wilderpeople), Kaimana (acting debut in Next Goal Wins), David Fane (Sione’s Wedding), Rachel House (Jojo Rabbit, Thor: Ragnarok), Beulah Koale (TV series ‘Hawaii Five-0’), Will Arnett (Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Minions: The Rise of Gru), and Elisabeth Moss (The French Dispatch, The Invisible Man).
