Set in a small town in 1960’s Montana, fourteen-year-old Joe (Oxenbould) is the only child of Jeanette (Mulligan) and Jerry (Gyllenhaal). Nearby, close to the Canadian border, an uncontrollable forest fire wreaks havoc on everything in its wake. When Jerry loses his job, he decides to enrol as a firefighter to help provide for his family, and restore a sense of purpose to his life. Forced into the adult role in the house, Joe must come to terms with his own adolescence, whilst battling Jeanette’s unravelling from themodel mother to a desperate figure of her former-self.
Described by Nick De Semlyen, Empire as “A beautifully observed study of an American family comingapart at the seams”, WILDLIFE is a gripping, nuanced story that delves into the trials and tribulations of family life with themes that are prevalent to this day.
