As the award season hits its stride the 2015 BAFTA nominations tend to continue to give an idea of which films are in the front of the voters minds. It’s been a while since the BAFTAs had any kind of guidance as to where the Oscar nominations might go but it goes a long way to show which films are impressing voters.
This year sees Wes Anderson’s The Grand Budapest Hotel leading the way with 11 BAFTA nominations while the excellent Birman and The Theory Of Everything both have ten. In the Best Supporting Actor category Foxcatcher duo Mark Ruffalo and Steve Carell will face-off against each other in a bizarre twist on the film’s own plot, hopefully they’ll be no creepy manipulation from Carell in real life though. Richard Linklater bags himself two nominations for Best Director and Best Original Screenplay for his magical Boyhood.
The nominations, which you can see in full below, do throw up one or two surprises. The lack of Timothy Spall’s nomination for his role in Turner, no nods for David Fincher for Gone Girl, although Rosamund Pike rightly is nominated in the Best Leading Actress category, and Christopher Nolan’s Interstellar seems to have gone missing in everything except Best Original Score. Oh, and don’t even get us started on how Calvary is not nominated in anything. The awards will be handed out by Stephen Fry on Sunday 8th February this year. Source – BAFTA via Facebook.
