Blue Is The Warmest Colour Wins At Cannes

The Cannes Film Festival 2013 has now come to a close with jury president Steven Spielberg awarding Abdellatif Kechiche’s Blue Is The Warmest Colour The Palme D’Or.  The film, which has gained much attention due to its graphic lesbian sex scene, is a teenage coming of age love story starring newcomer Adele Exarchopoulos and Sister and Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol actress Lea Seydoux.  At three hours long and including explicit sex scenes many thought it was likely to prove too risqué to be awarded the main prize but Spielberg and the jury thought otherwise.  Elsewhere, The Coen Brothers’ Inside Llewyn Davis won the Grand Prix, Berenice Bejo won Best Actress for The Past while Bruce Dern took home Best Actor for his role in Alexander Payne’s Nebraska.  Source – The Cannes Film Festival 2013
