The latest entry in the Evil Dead series, Sébastien Vaniček’s Evil Dead Burn takes the series into a bleak new era inspired by the New French Extremity movement. Darker and gorier than ever and building on the realistic tone of the previous entry Evil Dead Rise, fans of the earlier, more comedic entries might not gel with this sequel that swaps wisecracking gags for a study of grief and trauma. It’s a miserable film, but impeccably directed and performed – and a refreshing new take on the series. Horror junkies will gleefully enjoy the bloody carnage on offer, but those looking for light, schlocky thrills ought to look elsewhere. This is a bleak, bleak film.
This Ultimate Collector’s Edition, with exclusive artwork by Sophie Bland, is presented in a rigid box with magnetic opening and digipak holding the UHD disc, bursting with gruesome goodies including storyboards, Book of the Dead pages, alternate poster art cards, a production notes book, and two posters. A set that no true Evil Dead fan should be without.
