Samuel LoveBased on a true story, this 1940s-set cat-and-mouse thriller has so many cigarettes you can almost smell the smoke coming from your TV. Starring the great Alain Delon as real-life detective Roger Borniche, this is an old-school detective flick that we don’t get anymore. Clearly an inspiration for Heat and other films like it, this is a near-perfect crime thriller and a throwback to the golden age of French cinema with colossal performances from Delon and Jean-Louis Trintignant. Wonderful stuff.
