Johnny Depp, last seen as a vampire in Dark Shadows and soon to be seen a Tonto in The Lone Ranger, is in talks to star in Stephen Sondheim and James Lapine’s fairytale twisting musical adaptation Into The Woods. The film would see Depp as a baker who, with his wife, ventures into the woods to find the witch that put a curse on his family. Along the way they meet the likes of Cinderella, Jack And The Bean Stalk, Red Riding Hood and many more fairytale favourites. The film is being directed by Depp’s Pirates Of The Caribbean: On Stranger Tides director Rob Marshall who is also rumoured to be in talks with multi Oscar winning star Meryl Streep to take on a role. Lapine, who wrote the book upon which the musical is based, is looking to write the script for the film. The film won’t be kicking off production any time in the immediate future as both Marshall and Depp are developing a new incarnation of The Thin Man while Depp has the likes of Black Mass and Wally Pfister’s Transcendence currently in the pipeline.
