The last time we saw Sam Flynn and his Grid escapee guardian Quorra they were biking off into an LA sunrise. But it’s a fair assumption that they’ll find themselves back in the world of Tron because both Olivia Wilde and Garrett Hedlund have now been confirmed for Tron 3, or as it might be called Tron: Accession.
Tron Legacy came out back in 2010 and Disney have been trying to get a sequel underway ever since it did good business at the box office. Legacy director Joseph Kosinski will once again direct the film which is expected to pick-up on certain plot points revealed in Legacy including the presence of Cillian Murphy playing a character called Edward Dillinger the son of David Warner‘s character who was the original villain of the first film. There’s also the small matter of the fact that Quorra is technically a computer created entity who has escaped into the real world.
Disney is hoping to get this one into production later this year given they’re aiming for a late 2016 or early 2017 release and it is expected to need a lot of visual effects shots rendered. Legacy was a bit of a mixed bag with the visuals making it utterly jaw-dropping to behold but the plot being all over the shop.
Before they head back into The Grid Hedlund is set to star in Ang Lee‘s Billy Lynn’s Long Halftime Walk and is also set to star in William Monahan’s Mojave. Wilde meanwhile has recently finished work on Meadowlands and Love The Coopers opposite Amanda Seyfried and Marisa Tomei. Source – The Hollywood Reporter
