Sympathy For Mr. Vengeance Getting A Remake

Sympathy For Mr. Vengeance, the Korean film originally directed by Stoker and Oldboy director Chan-wook Park, is set to get the English language remake treatment.  Broken City’s Brian Tucker has written the script which will stick closely to the original’s plot.  The 2002 film finds a recently laid-off factory worker kidnapping his former boss’ daughter in the hope the ransom will give him enough money to pay for his sister’s kidney transplant.  But when the kidnapping goes wrong the boss sets out on his own path to revenge which sees the two men hunting each other down.  The film was the first in Park’s Vengeance trilogy which was followed by the original Oldboy, which is currently being remade by Spike Lee, and concluded with Lady Vengeance.  Whether the American remake of Mr. Vengeance will stick to the brutally violent ways of the original remains to be seen.  Source – Deadline

Alex Moss Editor

Alex Moss’ obsession with film began the moment he witnessed the Alien burst forth from John Hurt’s stomach. It was perhaps ill-advised to witness this aged 6 but much like the beast within Hurt, he became infected by a parasite called ‘Movies’. Rarely away from his computer or a big screen, as he muses on Cinematic Deities, Alex is “more machine now than man. His mind is twisted and evil”. Email:
